I wondered if anyone had had this done, I have had dreadfully inflamed tendons with the fingers getting stuck when I grasp and palpable 'lumps' on the tendons at the base of 3 fingers. This is terribly sore and very painful when they get stuck, I have to use my other hand to straighten them. Steroid injections were ineffective so have been referred to hand surgeon, not sure what they will do so was hoping someone had experience of this.
Thank you
Christine xx

Hi Christine

This sounds very nasty, and extremely painful as you say and hopefully the surgeon will be able to improve this situation. I have never heard of this surgery, but sounds very interesting, hopefully others will enlighten us Smile

Hi Christine this sounds like what Ive got , tendonisis is what they said in hospital , I to have lumps in base of two fingers and some tendons has split , they catch on the nodules and are very painful . I'm waiting for ultrasounds on both hands and wrists and have been told I will have to see a hand surgeon too . How long have your hands been like this ? I've been looking on Internet to see what can be done . Do you have swan neck deformaty ? I have it in my two middle fingers now . Agree it's so painful my hands feel like their burning !

Hi Christine -Sorry to hear about your hand problems.

I had problems with the fingers getting stuck 6 years ago, referred to a hand surgeon who did a procedure called a lateral band re-alignment which basically means releasing the tendons and re-aligning them. I had 3 fingers opened up at one time under a nerve block anaesthesia.

Be prepared for a huge amount of hand therapy afterwards, I had to have a special splint made, and wore it for 12 weeks, with physio exercises every day. It looked really promising to start with, I was able to bend my fingers without them getting stuck but after months of physio, my fingers stopped bending. The surgeon told me I had too much damage in the middle finger joints. Hope your joints are not too damaged.

When you see the surgeon ask him lots of questions about the damage in your finger joints to ascertain whether a tendon re-alignment will be successful.

Love
Rebecca
